One thing that is big here is the celebration of International Women's Day on the 8th of March. I had never heard of this holiday before coming here, so it doesn't seem to be all that "international", but it is celebrated in a BIG way here.
From the Wikipedia: "Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet Bloc In many regions, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day."
Here in Bosnia and Hecegovina, women are celebrated and treated and presents exchanged (usually from men to mothers, wives and daughters). Ljilja and I usually treat our landlady to something to show how much we appreciate her... and send messages to all our friends...
So through this blog I am wishing "Happy 8th of March" to all women and girls!!!
