Cape Town photo...

Here I am with my folks on Milnerton beach, with the lovely backdrop of Devil's peak,Table Mountain and Lion's head. We usually go on Saturday morning to Milnerton to the BIG flea market there. Today we decided to take our "classic" Cape Town photos - it is a lovely view and as there was very little wind (unusual for Cape Town!) it was idyllic there...and I got to put my toes in the sea water for the first time (I have been too busy to get to the beach, can you believe it!! I have been making maximum use of my parent's pool though...I feel like I am living in a luxurious hotel with my own private pool...)

TEFL

Well I started a TEFL (teaching english as a foreign language) course yesterday. It is a 3 week intensive course and it seems that it will be getting busy out of the classroom with lesson prep as well, but I am glad I decided to go ahead and do it.

I was looking at doing it while I was home and this course just seemed like the best option - it is during the day and so I will have evenings (mostly) free to see people and it is walking distance form my folks (which is NB as I don't have access to a car - the one I would have had was stolen!!) and the other ones in the area were either way more expensive or at night, so despite the fact that it is happening NOW (as opposed to in a week's time when I am more settled) it really was the only option if I was going to get the certificate while I am here.

I wanted to get more training as I find I don't know enough of the grammar etc needed when I am teaching and also it will be good to have some sort of actual certificate when I try and get my stalni borovak (permanant residence visa) next year. So there you go...

Anyway if you don't hear from me for a while it is because I am busy with this!!

Adjustments...

Well I was just thinking this morning about the adjustments of coming back to South Africa from Bosnia. Besides the obvious changes in time (which is only one hour, so not bad) and climate because of the summer winter thing - there is the change in time because of the summer winter thing - so instead of the sun going down at 4, it is only going down at 8.30pm... wrap your brain around that one....

Another biggie is of course I am so used to driving on the right, I now need to drive here going "left left left".

Then here they don't give out plastic bags at shops - you have to pay for them. And the point being that you then bring your own.

Then here everyone drives everywhere - after walking around all the time, this is a big shock, but I have found ways to get around my parents' paranoia about walking in this crime ridden place and am doing some walking!

Okay will keep you posted when I think of more things...

Sunny South Africa!!

Yes, I have safely arrived in Cape Town. I arrived 6 hours earlier, after being bumped from the flight via Joburg to the direct flight to Cape Town (the lady at the check-in offered, I hadn't even though to ask!!!). This of course was a problem for my folks who were still (okay more my mom really) frantically tidying up my room as it had been used as a storage space for two years! The switch totally made my day and of course made the trip back SOOOOOOO much nicer and I am more-or-less recovered from the trip already.

I have been swimming a couple of times in the pool, and enjoying the summery weather (sorry you guys who are still in WINTER!).

Anyway, it is interesting to be "home" after almost 2 years absence and I am looking forward to catching up with everyone here...

Leaving Bosnia...

I left Bosnia soil today for what will be almost 3 months... I was actually quite sad when I crossed the border - I am leaving some very good friends and lots of ministry... but at the same time I am also excited about going to me other "home" in South Africa and getting to see my parents and friends and catching up with everyone there... so very mixed feelings!!

Travel schedule for those who actually care: I am in Zagreb in Croatia with my friend Jasna until Thursday, then fly to London to be with my friends Dave and Sarah and their adorable twins. On Friday night I will finally fly towards South Africa, getting in (after flying via Joburg) to Cape Town around 4pm on Saturday...

I hope to see those of you in Cape Town and surrounds sometime in the next couple of months!!!

Happy New Year!

This year, Ljilja and I went to Sarajevo to spend New Year's with our good friend, Janice. Natalija from the island of Hvar (off the Croatian coast) was there as well and the four of us had a good time together...

Ljilja and I made it to the "Trg" to see Hari Mata Hari live (Janice was ill and Natalija didn't really want to go). He is one of my favourite Bosnian artists and even through it was cold and we were only there for about an hour, it was good fun and worth the effort!

We went back to ring in the New Year with Janice and Natalija, but also to avoid the craziness of firework throwing that has become the Bosnian tradition for New Years - you feel like you are in a warzone!

Hope you all have a wonderful New Year!!!
